Reference to the 1920's : F. Scott Fitzgerald - author of The Great Gatsby
Fitzgerald himself grew up living amongst the rich, but seeing as he wasn't of the same status, he felt like an outsider.
He felt as if the rich inhabited a different world - this became an idea for The Great Gatsby.
Fitzgerald observed, in Great Neck, New York, the life that he would incorporate into The Great Gatsby and even modelled the two eggs after this place on Long Island.
While he was busy working on The Great Gatsby, his wife, Zelda, had an affair with a French aviator.
Fitzgerald then incorporated the elements of that particular affair into the novel.
The Fitzgeralds' hobbies and favourite pastimes of attending parties and drinking are incorporated into The Great Gatsby.
The character of Daisy Buchanan is partially modelled off of Zelda Fitzgerald.
